Design Statement
For my website, I focused on creating a clean, modern aesthetic that communicates professionalism while remaining user-friendly and visually appealing. The choice of typefaces is an important part of setting the tone. I selected Barlow and Arvo for headings and sub-headings due to their bold, geometric structure, which allows for high readability. For the body text, I chose Lato, a simple sans-serif font known for its versatility and legibility, ensuring that users can easily navigate the content. Prompt was used for area's of emphasis,such as in the header and footer, as its rounded design creates a balanced contrast with the bolder fonts, providing a smooth visual hierarchy and improving readability. By using these complementary fonts, I was able to maintain a clean and cohesive feel throughout the site.
The text placement is arranged in a way that guides the user's eye seamlessly through the content. Headings are placed at the top of sections to create clear visual breaks between different topics, while paragraphs are aligned left to maintain structure and readability. For the hero section, I used large typography for the main title to immediately capture the user's attention, followed by a more concise, smaller description. This clear hierarchy helps users understand the key message and encourages them to explore further.
Color plays a significant role in this design. The color palette includes shades of blue representing the calmness of the sky, pink for the vibrancy of cherry blossoms, and red for energy, evoking Japan’s culture. These colors, paired with shades of white and grey, create balance and harmony throughout the site. Images used highlight the beauty of Japan’s landscapes and culture, drawing visitors into the website.
Button styles were chosen to create a distinct call-to-action, using a rounded, slightly larger design with a hover effect to encourage interaction. The buttons are placed at intuitive spots: in the navigation bar for quick access to sections and throughout the content to lead users to important actions. The hover effect adds interactivity, enhancing the user experience by providing clear feedback when the user is about to click.
